The special POCSO court has sentenced a person convicted of kidnapping a minor to 20 years rigorous imprisonment.
The special POCSO court has sentenced a person convicted of kidnapping a minor to 20 years rigorous imprisonment. The court has also imposed a fine of Rs 2 lakh 50 thousand on the convict. The minor told the court about going along with consent. But the court held that the consent of the minor does not matter and convicted him.
Government advocate Yogesh Joshi told the special POCSO court that on February 22, 2022, a report was filed by the minor victim’s father. It was told that his minor daughter (15) was going to school. At that time, accused Sanjay (22), son of Dolatram, resident of Shishod Phala Ambav, who was standing outside the school, took him away on a bicycle. When the girl did not return home, the family members searched, but could not find her. While investigating this, the police arrested the minor on February 24, 2022. After completing the investigation in the case, the police presented the trial in the POCSO court.
During the hearing in court, the minor victim said that she had gone with the accused youth with consent. The court ordered that since the victim was a minor, her consent and non-consent would not be valid. The court concluded the hearing on Friday and gave its verdict. The court has convicted the accused Sanjay and sentenced him to 20 years rigorous imprisonment. While the culprit has been fined Rs 2 lakh 50 thousand.
