Among those in the hospital, 154 needed intensive care – the same as Wednesday’s total treatment – and 68 patients needed the help of a ventilator to breathe.

Sixty-one percent of those in the ICU were admitted due to the virus, the rest were admitted for other reasons, and then tested positive.

The province reported at least 1,096 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, with 13,316 trials completed in the last 24 hours. Officials say the actual number of new cases per day may be higher than the reported number due to testing limitations.
