Hundreds of people walked their sneakers for Alzheimer’s at the Simco County Museum on Sunday.
Organized by the Alzheimer’s Society of Simco County, the 24th ‘Walk for Alzheimer’ event was attended by 200 people, including a half-kilometer walk along the path to the museum.
According to Debbie Islam, CEO of the Alzheimer’s Society of Simco County, 10,500 people in the Simco County area have dementia.
“It affects more people than those people,” Islam says. “It affects their families, it affects their care partners and unfortunately that number will double in the next twenty years.”
After hosting virtual events three years later, the organizers are happy to be back in person.
Debbie Islam, CEO of the Alzheimer’s Society of Simco County, said: “We have had two or three difficult years where we’re doing virtual fundraising events, so it’s nice to be back in person.
The event is the largest fundraiser this year for the Alzheimer’s Society of Simco County, where funds raised will go to people suffering from dementia or Alzheimer’s disease.
Organizers hope to raise $ 200,000, and donations are still accepted online.
If you miss the walk, the items will be seized at the online auction until June 6th.
