ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) has granted bail to National Assembly member Ali Wazir on a petition filed by the Sindh government.

The Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) on Friday, November 26, heard the bail application of Pashtun Tehreek Movement (PTM) lawmaker Ali Wazir. A three-member bench headed by Supreme Court Judge Sardar Tariq Masood heard the petition.

At the beginning of the hearing, the prosecution (Sindh government) requested the court to adjourn on bail of Ali Wazir. The Sindh government in its position said that Ali Wazir has been booked for anti-national activities and terrorism in Sindh.

The court granted the Sindh government’s request for adjournment and adjourned the hearing on Ali Wazir’s bail application till Monday, November 29.

Earlier, the Sindh High Court had rejected Ali Wazir’s bail application. It may be recalled that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police had arrested several leaders of Pashtun Tehreek Movement including Ali Wazir while leaving the Peshawar Archives Hall in connection with a case registered after a rally in Karachi in September 2020.

In March 2020, a petition was also filed in the Islamabad High Court seeking disqualification of Ali Wazir, a leader of the Pashtun Tehreek Movement (PTM) and a member of the National Assembly.

The petitioner had alleged in the petition that PTM was involved in anti-national activities and therefore a declaration should be issued against him. The petition asked the court to direct the federal government to determine the status of the PTM and declare it an organization involved in anti-national activities.

The petition asked the court to direct the government to investigate the alleged illegal operations and activities of the PTM in order to expose its membership, funds and links.
