The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication has issued notification of Social Media Rules 2021.
IT Minister Amin-ul-Haq said that under the amended rules, Pakistani consumers would have full freedom of expression under Article 19. The rules would play an important role in liaising between Pakistani consumers and social media organizations.
Aminul Haq said that social media companies have to abide by Pakistani laws and the rights of social media users. Live streaming of extremism, terrorism, hate speech, pornography and violent content will be banned.
The Federal Minister said that social media organizations would be bound to remove content against the dignity and security of Pakistan. Advertising of immoral and obscene content would also be a felony. Social media organizations and service providers would formulate community guidelines and users in the guidelines Information on uploading content will be provided.
Amin-ul-Haq clarified that negative material related to any person will not be uploaded and material related to the private life of others, material against the cultural and moral tendencies of Pakistan, material related to mental and physical development of children and destruction of morals. There will be a ban.
In addition, all social media organizations, including YouTube, Facebook, TikTak, Twitter, Google Plus, will be bound by the rules. After the issuance of the notification, it will be necessary to set up offices in Pakistan on social media as soon as possible and social media companies will appoint their authorized officers for Pakistan.
