Barnstead NH Fire Leaves 1 Dead – NECN

A 72-year-old woman was killed in a fire early Monday morning in Barnstead, New Hampshire, officials said.

Barnstead Firefighters responded to a reported building fire on Varney Road at 3:23am and found a single family home completely engulfed in flames. After putting out the fire, firefighters found a dead woman inside the house.

No other injuries were reported.

The state medical examiner’s office conducted an autopsy on Monday, identifying the victim as Frances Barrett of Barnstead. The cause and manner of her death await additional testing.

An investigation into where and how the fire started is still ongoing by the State Fire Officer, Barnstead Police and Fire Brigade.

Firefighters from Gilmanton, Alton, Pittsfield, Epsom and Farmington helped fight the fire. Durham’s new firefighters also provided coverage for the station.
