Germany’s health minister has said that the number of cases of corona virus will continue to rise in the weeks before the current wave hits next month.

The wave is expected to reach its peak in mid-February, Karl Lutherbach told a German public broadcaster.

Luterbach warned that although hospital admissions are currently low, clinics could face severe pressure in the coming weeks.

He noted that Germany has the highest number of unvaccinated people over the age of 50 in Europe.

Germany’s disease protection agency has confirmed 133,536 new Code-19 cases and 234 deaths in the past 24 hours.

According to preliminary studies, the Omekron variant causes less severe disease than its predecessor, the Delta variant.

But the rate of spread of Omekron is much higher than other variants of Corona virus and due to its high speed it has spread to many countries of the world.

Omicron is also an easy target for those who have been vaccinated or who have previously been infected with the corona virus.
