Police said on Friday that a Dalit youth named Vijay Kumar Kamble was allegedly stabbed and attacked with a rod on the night of May 25 in Wadi town of Kalaburagi district, killing him on the spot. . Kamble wanted to marry a Muslim girl, but the girl’s family opposed their relationship.

Kalaburagi: A 25-year-old Dalit youth, who was related to a Muslim girl, was murdered in Karnataka’s Kalaburagi in a suspected case of honor killing. Two people, including the girl’s brother, have been arrested in this regard. The police gave this information on Friday.

Vijay Kumar Kamble was allegedly stabbed and attacked with a rod on Wednesday (May 25) night in Wadi town of Kalaburagi district.

The girl was in touch with the youth despite the opposition of her family. The arrested people have been identified as the elder brother of the girl, Mohammad Shahabuddin and his friend Nawaz. A case has been registered on the complaint of the youth’s mother.

According to the Indian Express report, the deceased Vijay used to work as a cook in the Railway Department. The incident happened on May 25 when he was returning home from work.

Around 9:20 pm, Kamble was taken to a railway bridge and attacked with weapons, stones, killing him on the spot.

According to police sources, Kamble was in love with a Muslim girl and wanted to marry her, but the girl’s family opposed their relationship.

Shahabuddin had allegedly threatened Kamble to stay away from his sister. The Wadi police, which registered a case of murder against both, said that the accused are currently in police custody and further investigation is on.

Tension prevailed in Wadi town after several right-wing organizations reportedly demanded strict action following the incident.

Earlier this month in Hyderabad too, a Dalit youth was murdered by the brother of his Muslim wife in broad daylight.

In September 2021, 10 people, including a young woman’s parents, were arrested for murdering a 24-year-old Muslim man after his mutilated body was found on a railway track in Karnataka’s Belagavi district.

On 28 September 2021, the mutilated body of Arbaaz Mulla was recovered from the track between Desur and Khanapur railway station, about 30 km from the district.

Najima Sheikh, the mother of the deceased youth, had lodged an FIR against the members of the right-wing organization Shri Ram Sena and the girl’s father for the murder of her son.

Less than a month after the murder in Belagavi, Ravi Nimbargi, a resident of Balganur village in Sindgi, was allegedly murdered by the family of a Muslim woman with whom he was in a relationship. The body of Nimbargi, who went missing on 21 October 2021, was retrieved from a well three days later. Two people, the woman’s maternal uncle and younger brother, were arrested for the murder.

Apart from Karnataka, a Dalit youth was murdered by his Muslim wife’s brother in broad daylight earlier this month in Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana.

On the night of May 4, a 25-year-old Dalit youth was attacked by his Muslim wife’s brother and another man with an iron rod and a knife, killing him on the spot.

In May itself, Neeraj P. (21), who married a woman from another caste, was allegedly stabbed to death by five men at Begum Bazar in Hyderabad. Five close relatives of the woman were arrested in this regard.
