The expert committee, at its last meeting in April, sought more information from the Pune-based company. DCGI approved Covovax on December 28 for limited emergency use in adults and on March 9 it was approved for use in the 12- to 17-year-old age group with certain conditions.

It is noteworthy that on March 16, the country started vaccinating children between the ages of 12 and 14. The nationwide vaccination campaign was launched on January 16 last year in which health workers were vaccinated in the first phase. Vaccination of frontline personnel started on February 2 last year.
