New Delhi: At least 20 people were killed and several others were injured when a fire broke out in a building near Mundka metro station in west Delhi on Friday evening. According to the information received, 60-70 people have been evacuated from the building. Atul Garg told that some people are still trapped inside. According to fire brigade officials, the information about the fire was received at around 4.40 pm after which 24 fire tenders were sent to the spot.

Police said several of the injured, who were evacuated from the building, were admitted to the hospital and rescue operations were on. Officials said the fire broke out in the building located near pillar number 544 of Mundka metro station.

A senior police official said that on receiving information about the fire, police personnel reached the spot and the people trapped in the building were rescued by breaking the window panes and the injured were admitted to a hospital.

Outer Delhi Deputy Commissioner of Police Sameer Sharma said that preliminary investigation has revealed that the three-storey commercial building houses the offices of the companies. According to the DCP, the fire started from the first floor of the building where the office of the manufacturer of CCTV cameras and routers is located.

Police said that the owner of the company is in police custody. One woman has died in the incident and efforts are on to bring the situation under control. Police said that fire brigade personnel are on the spot and trying to control the situation. Ambulances are also present at the spot to take the injured to the hospital immediately.
