Pi News –
Sunderland City Council’s planning department has received an application for land near the Marine Walk council car park in Rocker.
The applicant intends to install a dog wash station with a service connection to the NE Dog Wash public toilet building.
Operating in Blyth, Whitley Bay and several country parks, the company provides dog wash stations with shampoo, rinse, conditioner, ‘rinse-after’ and hot blow-dry.
According to the NE Dog Wash website, the stations have a quick “disinfection bath” mode that is used to prepare the station for the next user and ensure the equipment is as clean as possible.
Plans were recently approved for a dog washing station at Harbor Drive South car park in South Shields.
Plans for the Marine Walk site at Rocker have been submitted to council officials with a number of supporting documents, including a planning statement.
Those behind the scheme said existing sites in the area were “well received” and the new facility in Sunderland would “encourage more and longer visits” and “enhance the status of neighboring attractions and facilities”.
A planning statement added: ‘Taking any dog outside during the day, especially in areas where dogs like to play, is always going to be messy, especially with the weather in the UK.
“Coming home from a day at the park isn’t very appealing when you have to clean the dog, then the bathroom, then the interior of the car.
“Spending 10 minutes at a self-service dog wash is a great way to end the day for owners and their dogs.
“Today, dog owners often bathe their dogs at home in their own bathroom, possibly adding a monthly trip to the groomer.
“Bathing a dog regularly at home often means leaning on the dog, back pain, and then cleaning up the mess in the bathroom.
“A visit to a self-service dog wash makes it easy to groom dogs in a pet-safe and pet-friendly environment.”
