Donald Trump was sued for fraud on Wednesday by the New York state attorney general, who for more than three years has conducted civil investigations into the former US president’s business practices, court records show.

A copy of the complaint was not immediately available. The lawsuit was filed in New York state court in Manhattan.

An investigation by Attorney General Letitia James focused on whether the Trump Organization misrepresented the value of its real estate properties in order to obtain favorable loans and tax benefits.

James is expected to make the announcement at 11:30 am EDT (1530 GMT). He said the investigation found “significant evidence” that Trump and the company fraudulently valued many of his assets.

The former Republican president has denied wrongdoing and described James’ investigation as a politically motivated witch hunt. James is a Democrat. The Trump organization called James’ allegations “baseless.”
