Filmmakers Richard Davies and Chris Howard will share secrets next week on how to capture Atlantic salmon for salmon wild islandsBBC One’s latest wildlife series presented by Sir David Attenborough.

The Missing Salmon Alliance (MSA) is hosting an online evening with duo Silverback Films on May 18.

The free event is hosted by Johnathon Muir, Head of Communications for the Atlantic Salmon Trust.

“Through groundbreaking camera work, narration and cinematography, Silverback film producer Chris Howard has harnessed Richard Davies’ photographic skills to bring fresh attention to what happens to the Kingfish,” event organizers explained.

“Fresh Water” episode of wild islandsreleased on 2 April, highlighted the stark fact that, in the words of Sir David Attenborough, ‘the return of [wild Atlantic] Salmon numbers have declined by 70% in just 25 years… [and] At the current rate of decline, they may disappear from all of our rivers in less than 20 years—the descendants of these fish may be the last to make the incredible journey.

From eggs, to bar, to smolt and return, the team will share a selection of amazing footage, talk through the processes involved in capturing each life stage, describe the threats facing salmon at each of these points in their lives, and share news about how MSA’s work toward a brighter future for these iconic species.”
