The Women’s Premier League (WPL) witnessed yet another one-sided contest today as Delhi Capitals Women easily defeated Gujarat Giants Women by ten wickets. Delhi all-rounder Marizane Kip’s killer bowling and Shefali Verma’s storming batting never allowed Gujarat to dominate the match played on Saturday. Delhi clinched the match with 77 balls to spare at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai.
With Milli’s win today, the Delhi Women’s team has moved up to second place behind Mumbai Indians Women in the points table with three wins out of their four matches in the WPL. On the other hand, this is Gujarat Women’s third defeat in four matches. Today Gujarat won the toss and chose to bat first. The entire team could only score 105 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 20 overs. In reply, Delhi scored 107 runs without loss in 7.1 overs. Shefali Verma scored 76 off just 28 balls to lead Delhi Capitals to an explosive win against Gujarat Giants.

Shefali’s storming innings can be gauged from the fact that Delhi scored 87 runs in the power play, i.e. the first six overs. This is the highest score ever scored by any team in the Women’s Premier League Powerplay.
As for Gujarat Giants Women’s batting, Kim Garth top scored 32 runs. Georgia Wareham contributed 22 runs, Harleen Deol 20 runs and Tanuja Kanwar contributed 13 runs. None of the other batsmen could even reach double figures. For Delhi, Marizanne Cape took five wickets while Shikha Pandey got three wickets and Radha Yadav got one wicket.
