The Hamilton Bulldogs will play in the 2022 Memorial Cup after a 4-3 extra time win over 2021-2022 QMJHL champions Shavinigan Cataract in the semifinals on Monday.

Hamilton scored the winning goal for center John Misak at 10:08 in extra time. Misak, 20, will be the first star in the game.

The Bulldogs broke the first lead of the game 1:23 in the second period with Mason McDowish’s fourth goal 1-1.

Shavinigan’s Olivier Nadev will face his fourth match in a few minutes.

With 10 minutes left in the game, the Cataracts took the lead again at 10:01 a.m. before Bulldogs Logan Morrison equalized four minutes later.

With Hamilton 0 for 2 in the power play, Shavinigan did not score in their only man-of-the-match opportunity in the first period.

Both teams combine five total penalties in the game, with Shavinigan counting the first two and the second one.

Marco Costandini stopped 33 of the 36 shots he faced.

Cataract Antoine Coulombe stopped 39 out of 43.

The finals will feature the Bulldogs, along with hosts St. John Sea Docks, on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
