Environmental Canada has issued a heat alert for Toronto and the surrounding region, calling for highs in the 30s and overnight lows in the 20s on Saturday and Sunday. A mix of sun and clouds is expected on both days with the possibility of rain.
That means some relief from the scorching heat to cooler temperatures arriving on Monday.
Heat alerts are issued when extremely high temperatures or humidity levels are expected to pose a risk of illness, such as heatstroke or heat exhaustion.
Young children, pregnant women, older adults, those with chronic illnesses or people who work outdoors are at greatest risk, the federal weather agency said.
Stay calm with these tips, he says:
- Drink plenty of water before you even feel thirsty.
- Check in on older family members, friends and neighbors.
- Never leave people or pets in a parked vehicle.
- Rest in a cool place if working outdoors.
