Hebrew newspaper… in the Knesset: When the Israeli left thinks of a “right-wing head”… to protect the Palestinians

There can be no dispute about a number of facts. Palestinians in the “Territories” [الضفة الغربية], especially those working on the land among them, a population group that is exposed to great danger and without protection, and their situation has worsened in recent months; The settlers’ attacks became more violent, systematic and routine, and their lives turned into a nightmare. Every Palestinian peasant became afraid to go to his land, and many of them had to give it up because of the settlers’ fear.
The Israeli army, which is responsible for their security, does not think that it will come to protect them. Soldiers stand idly by, even protecting the attacking settlers, sometimes even providing them with guns. The high command in the army encourages this by its silence and impotence. Even if binding instructions were issued in a different spirit, their implementation is questionable. The Israel Police, too, does nothing. As for the Palestinian police, they are not allowed to do anything to defend their people. And so this population group remained as helpless as it had never been. The violence of the army and the tyranny of the occupation has been added to the institutionalized violence of the settlers.
Of course, this can be received with a shrug of the shoulder, as we receive the reality of apartheid without doing anything. Haim Shadni, a journalist and radical left-wing activist, has a different thinking, thinking exactly as the settlers do. Where the army is not doing enough to defend the population, we need another force to come into the picture. This is how the settler armed militia was formed, whose legal arm is called the Military Daily Security Centers. The state pays their salaries, the army provides them with weapons, and they are allowed to do almost everything in the name of defending the settlements.
They actually do. They cast terror in the hearts of the Palestinians, and from time to time they harm innocents in the name of self-defense. As for the “New Guardian” organization, it was established with a similar goal; Where the police do not play their role, a civilian organization has been formed in Israel with a unit of jeeps, a unit of motorcyclists, and a unit of volunteers in the Border Police, and this is exactly what the brutal Border Patrol lacked. “The State of Israel does not protect its land. We will preserve the state’s lands ourselves,” he wrote on the organization’s homepage.
It made me think like them: We must defend the impotent public. His conscience is tense: the left is compelled to rise up to protect those who are being attacked. This is how, by the way, a number of whites, including many Jews, behaved in South Africa with blacks. We can only imagine the cowardice of the settlers’ thugs in front of the armed Israelis who served in the army and will stand before them.
This week, at a meeting inside the Knesset to discuss settler violence, organized by the left, Chedni put forward his suggestion: “If you are unable,” he told the Knesset members, “Please, authorize us to use weapons. We will protect the Palestinians. We will save people’s lives.” In other words, a permit from the Daily Security or the “new guard” authorized by the state to defend the powerless. Shadni added, “We will not touch anyone.” But none of them were ready to hear it.
The storm that erupted was fun. It’s not nice to talk about this picture. The first speaker was the very leftist and very Arab indicator in the left-center government, Issawi Freij, who was quick to repudiate these statements. “It is not appropriate. I exaggerated, exaggerated, exaggerated.” Why is it not suitable? And who is exaggerating? And who will protect your brothers in the “regions”? [الضفة الغربية]? Then a storm erupted in social networks, from the right and the left: a violent, inflammatory, provocative proposal that distorts my words. The left threatens to kill. The sarcastic pose is reserved for the head of the Yesha Council, David El-Hayani, who went to the Inspector General of Police and asked to “arrest me for investigation due to threats and incitement to murder.” Elhayani, sensitive and understanding some things about violence and incitement, was horrified by the threats of the left. That’s funny.
Almost no one supported Chedni’s proposal, which is one of the valid ones put forward by the left in recent years. The problem with this fictional Salvation Army is that it will never be ready. Who will volunteer for this army? Candle kids? Hapoel difference? JS Meretz?
