Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and former Prime Minister Imran Khan announced the suspension of Jail Bharu Movement following the Supreme Court order.

Today, the Supreme Court’s order regarding the delay in the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa elections was announced and the court ordered that the elections be held within 90 days.

After the verdict, Chairman PTI Imran Khan announced in a Twitter message that he would call off the Jail Bharu movement and start election campaign.

The former prime minister welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision and said it was the Supreme Court’s responsibility to uphold the Constitution. The Supreme Court played its role bravely. Today’s decision by the Supreme Court is an affirmation of the rule of law in Pakistan.

Chairman PTI Imran Khan also announced that he would call off Jail Bharu Movement and start election campaign in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Reacting to the decision, PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry said the constitution has won, parliamentary democracy has won.

He wrote that the Supreme Court’s clear order has come. The date of Punjab elections will be announced by the President and the Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been forced to announce the date immediately. The judges who disagreed also accept the principle of holding elections within 90 days.

Speaking to journalists outside the Supreme Court, he said that if the Supreme Court’s order is not implemented, the Supreme Court will send the government home through Article 187 and execute it itself.

The former information minister further said that all the five judges have upheld the law of holding elections within 90 days. The Supreme Court has instructed the Election Commission to immediately propose the election date for the President.

It should be noted that the Supreme Court gave a safe order regarding the delay of the elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The court ordered to hold elections in both provinces in 90 days.

A 5-member bench headed by Chief Justice Umar Atta Bandial heard the impromptu messages related to elections in Punjab province and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Apart from the Chief Justice, the bench includes Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, Justice Muneeb Akhtar, Justice Jamal Khan Mandukhel and Justice Mohammad Ali Mazhar.

The Supreme Court reserved the decision after concluding the hearing yesterday, while the court allowed the request of the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa speakers. The court made its decision by a majority of 3-2 and the decision was affirmed by Chief Justice Umar Atta Bandial, Justice Muneeb Akhtar and Justice Mohammad Ali Mazhar. The Supreme Court has also issued a written decision on the notice itself, which decision consists of 13 pages and the dissenting notes of Justice Jamal Mandukhel and Justice Mansoor Ali Shah consist of 2 pages.

The dissenting note of Justice Jamal Mandukhel and Justice Mansoor Ali Shah argued that the automated message was taken unnecessarily and hastily. The case of spontaneous notification of elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and PTI’s constitutional petitions are inadmissible. The suo motu case and PTI’s constitutional pleas are dismissed.
