Russia has handed over a regiment of the state-of-the-art air defense system S500 to a unit guarding the capital Moscow.
Russian media quoted Defense Ministry sources as saying that the first regiment of the modern defense system X500 has entered the city’s defense service with one unit. The program aims to protect and defend Moscow’s airspace.
The 15th Aerospace Forces guard the airspace of the Russian capital and the Central Industrial District.
The second S-500 Regiment will be handed over to Russian troops in mid-2022.
It should be noted that Russia’s state-of-the-art S500 system system is a modern version of the Russian-made advanced surface-to-air missile system S400 and is considered one of the best air defense systems in the world.
The radar alerts the missile command vehicle of any danger, after which the missile is fired through the vehicle, which provides radar guidance.
The missile system has been used by the Russian military since 2007, and Russia has sold it to Turkey, China, Saudi Arabia, India and Belarus.
