Srinagar: The popular mankabat ‘Jaanam Fida-e-Haideri’, which has garnered millions of views on social media, now has a Kashmiri language version.

The Kashmiri version of the mankabat was rendered by Sufi singer Mudasir Ali. It was directed by Mir Sarwar, who has also acted in several Bollywood films.

Kashmir Monitor is the media partner of this venture and the mankabat aired on two satellite TV channels on the eve of Muharram.

“After the popularity of Jaanam Fida-e-Haideri last year, I realized that we can do it in Kashmiri as well. I spoke to my friend Mudasir Ali about it and he agreed to sing it, but the real challenge was to get the Kashmiri lyrics, not in translated form, but on a similar theme. So, Mehraj Nargis has done a great job in writing the lyrics. We were planning to release it earlier for Eid but for some reasons we couldn’t do it and finally released it just before Muharram this year. This video features Ajmer Haider and Mudasir,” Mir Sarwar told The Kashmir Monitor.

Sarwar has acted in popular Bollywood films like Kesari, Bairangi Bhaijaan, Bachelorette 2, Dishoom and Phantom. He was also seen in the international Jackie Chan film Vanguard. Mudasir Ali has also sung a few Bollywood songs.

Although the Kashmiri version of ‘Jaanam Fida-e-Haideri’ was mainly released on television, it is now also being shared and liked on various social media platforms.

“It’s fine. Congratulations to the entire team, especially Mir Sarwar (sic),” commented @hakimmilyas on YouTube.

Another listener RJ Rekha Bala wrote, “Congratulations to the entire team for creating a great song. Good song, good performance and good direction (sic).”
