Air pollution persists in Punjab, citizens are facing severe difficulties due to smog.

Today, Lahore is the second most polluted city in the world in terms of air pollution.

According to the Air Quality Index, the amount of polluted particles in the atmosphere of Lahore was 392 while 167 particulate matter was recorded in Karachi.

According to the Air Quality Index, Delhi is the second most polluted city in the world, followed by Kolkata.

According to media reports, increasing air pollution in Delhi has led to an increase in respiratory diseases in children.

Educational institutions in Delhi have been closed for a week due to air pollution, while the Indian Supreme Court has also taken notice of air pollution.

It may be recalled that an important meeting was held recently under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Imran Khan on increasing pollution in the country, in which he said that clean and pollution free Pakistan is our top priority, especially in big cities to fight against pollution. Sustainable environmental protection plans need time.

He directed the concerned departments to take necessary steps immediately and work out a strategy with the provincial governments to protect our major cities from pollution.

The Prime Minister said that long term measures should be taken to tackle the issues related to climate change, we are focusing on making our cities as green as possible through large scale afforestation.

According to sources, the meeting was attended by Federal Minister for Information Fawad Chaudhry, Malik Amin Aslam, Dr Shahbaz Gul and concerned senior officers.

Besides, Chief Secretary Punjab Kamran Ali Afzal and Babar Hayat Tarar also attended the meeting through video link.

Pollution from 151 to 200 degrees Celsius is harmful to health, according to the Air Quality Index.

Pollution of 201 to 300 degrees is extremely harmful to health while more than 301 degrees indicates dangerous pollution.
