It took extra time to get there, but London Lightning moved into a win of the championship at Budweiser Garden on Sunday afternoon, beating the KW Titans 115-110.

After a tight four-quarter basketball game, London beat the Titans 12-7 in the extra five minutes.

The win put Lightning 2-0 in the top five National Basketball League finals of the National Basketball League of Canada.

After London’s win of 116-91 and a delay in Game 1, the Titans were relegated to Game 2.

NBLC Most Valuable Player Joel Kindret scored four points in the final 42 seconds, and Chris Jones’ three-point effort failed in the buzzer leaving extra time to decide things.

Terry Thomas aggressively led Lightning with 28 points.

Chris Jones of London had another great all-around game with 17 points, 10 assists and five rebounds.

Jermaine Haley hit the first two baskets of the OT, they did not surrender to London and ended the afternoon with 21 points.

Kindrett KW topped all scorers with 38 points.

With KW winning 60-51, Lightning broke a big day for the Titans on the boards. London had more chances in the attacking rebound 13-10.

One more win could guarantee London a league-high fifth title.

Lightning won the NBLC Championship in 2012, 2013, 2017 and 2018. They appeared in the final in 2017, but lost to the Halifax Hurricanes.

Game 3 will take place on Wednesday, June 1 in Kitchener-Waterloo.
