A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a body was discovered in a house on fire in Castlebar, Co Mayo, on Sunday night.
Shortly after 6:30 pm, the Gardaà and emergency services responded to reports of a house fire in Pheasanthill, Castlebar, Co Mayo. A man’s body was found inside the residence.
The arrested man is being held at the Castlebar Garda Center under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
The scene was preserved and the services of the Garda Technical Office and the Pathologist’s Office were requested.
The Gardaà in Castlebar is appealing to anyone with information relating to this incident to contact them at Castlebar Garda Station on 094 903 8200, the Garda Secret Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
A police spokesperson said investigations were ongoing and that there was no further comment at this time.
