RAWALPINDI: Police on Tuesday arrested Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rashid Ahmad after he rejected his bail plea in a May 9 violence case.
The former interior minister appeared before ATC judge Malik Asif Ejaz to approve bail in 14 cases registered against him in the May 9 riots.
The court granted him bail in 13 cases; however, the ATC denied him bail in a case registered at the New City police station.
On January 15, the court heard the arguments of both sides and reserved its verdict.
Police arrested Rashid after a court rejected his bail plea in a case.
Speaking to the media, Rashid’s lawyer Sardar Abur Raziq said his client was arrested by the police after his bail was cancelled.
He said that the court will determine whether Rashid will be tried or physically arrested in tomorrow’s court session.
After Rashid “Chilla” in an interview with the media when he came to the ATK court with a team of lawyers [40-day meditation] his health has deteriorated, he has difficulty speaking and walking, but his spirits are high and the losers are those who have lost their morals.
In the previous court session, the prosecutor asked the court to reject the bail application of accused Rashid and Rashid Shafiq.
