ISLAMABAD: Former Federal Minister Shirin Mazari has been released on the orders of Islamabad High Court.
Islamabad High Court Chief Justice Athar Minallah held a hearing against the arrest of Shirin Mazari. During the hearing, Shirin Mazari said that I was arrested by those in uniform. “A woman in uniform pushed me. I was beaten. They beat me, broke my nails. I said show me the warrant, which was not shown. I was put in the car and taken to the motorway.” He asked where they were taking me and they said maybe Lahore or my city.
The Chief Justice said that what happened to you is unfortunate. “Even worse things happened when you were in government. There have been enforced disappearances from Islamabad. That is what will happen when the constitution is not respected.
The Islamabad High Court, while ordering a judicial inquiry into the arrest of Shirin Mazari, said that it was unfortunate that members of the Assembly were also arrested during the previous regime. “Members of the Assembly are still in jail today.”
The court ordered the return of Shirin Mazari’s mobile phone and other belongings. The court also ordered IG Islamabad to provide security at home to Shirin Mazari.
Talking to media after the hearing, Mazari said that Rana Sanaullah should do what he has to do. The imported government thinks that it will end the independence march by threatening. I am grateful to the court for the order of the Judicial Commission.
Earlier, police had arrested Mazari on a complaint by the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE). He was arrested outside his E-7 home. A case of transfer of property was registered against him in DG Khan.
Shirin Mazari’s daughter Iman Mazari had alleged that her mother was tortured by male police officers. I was told that the Lahore Anti-Corruption Wing had taken him into custody.
