Meghan Markle has revealed that her mother was wrong when she was a nanny growing up, in the second episode of her new Netflix series and Prince Harry, titled “Harry & Meghan”.

“I grew up in Los Angeles,” says the Duchess of Sussex, describing her childhood in the second episode of the Netflix documentary series, which premiered Thursday.

“And I just remember my mom telling me stories about taking me to the grocery store and women going ‘Who’s this kid?’ It must be…” Meghan said, of her interactions with her mother, Doria Ragland, at the time.

She’s like, ‘She’s my baby,'” but Meghan said women took issue with her claim.

They were like, ‘No — that must be the nanny, where’s her mom?’ “Because I was fair-skinned and my mom was darker,” Megan added.

Megan’s comments about her upbringing detail what she said in a 2012 video for the Erase the Hate campaign about being biracial, and witnesses someone hurl a racial slur at her mother.

“I’m biracial. Most people can’t tell what I’m mixed with, and for a lot of my life I’ve felt like a fly on the wall,” Meghan said at the time. She spoke of hearing people tell “really offensive jokes” and said, “Two years ago I heard someone He calls my mom the n-word.

“Honestly, your ethnicity is part of what defines you,” said the Duchess of Sussex. “I think what changes things is that the world really treats you based on how you look.”

Megan’s mother appears in the second episode of the series.

Ragland has never spoken to the press or the media publicly before, though viewers may remember hearing her voice on Megan’s podcast, “The Archetypes.”

“My name is Doria, and I’m Megan’s mom,” Ragland said at the beginning of the second episode. “And um, the past five years have been challenging.”

“I’m ready to be heard, that’s for sure,” Ragland adds. “A little bit of my experience, you know, as her mom.”

Speaking about the first time her daughter told her she was dating Prince Harry, Ragland said the two started whispering about it on the phone together.

She also gave a glowing description of her first encounter with the prince, describing him as “a handsome 6’1 with red hair.”

“Really great manners. He was really nice. “They looked really happy together,” she said.

The revelation arrived in the first three episodes of the Netflix series, “Harry & Meghan,” directed by Liz Garbus, which was released Thursday. The final three episodes of the series will drop on December 15th.

The series includes “commentary from friends and family, most of whom have never spoken publicly about what they saw” as well as an exploration of the couple’s relationship with the royal family and the factors that led to their decline in 2020.

“No one sees what happens behind closed doors,” Harry said in the teaser released in the trailer. “I had to do everything I could to protect my family.”
