Mumbai: The 45th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of India’s largest company Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) was held recently. Reliance Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani announced the big announcements in his speech. Meanwhile, he also gave big hints about his successor. Company chairman and managing director Mukesh Ambani hinted at his succession plan for Reliance Industries at the company’s 45th AGM.

Ambani’s three children – daughter Isha and sons Akash and Anant – already hold various directorships in the group’s businesses. “Akash and Esha have held leadership roles in Jio and Retail respectively. He has been enthusiastically involved in our customer business since its inception. Anant has also joined our New Energy business with great enthusiasm. In fact, he is spending most of his time in Jamnagar,” he said while addressing RIL’s annual general meeting on Monday.

In the early stages of his succession planning, Mukesh Ambani stepped down as chairman of Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd in June and his elder son Akash took over the helm of the telecom business. After that Isha Ambani, now director of Reliance Retail, is expected to be chosen as the chairman of the group’s retail unit.

Meanwhile, Mukesh Ambani is the chairman of Reliance Industries, which has interests in petrochemicals, oil and gas, telecom and retail. About 60 percent of Reliance’s revenue comes from oil refining and petrochemicals, but the group is diversifying into retail, telecom and technology to reduce dependence on oil refining, and is also entering new energy businesses.
