News Details

Bihar CM Nitish Kumar’s party JDU has decided not to give Rajya Sabha ticket again, giving a big blow to Union Minister RCP Singh. JDU President Lalan Singh announced late in the evening that Jharkhand JDU chief Khiru Mahto would be the party’s Rajya Sabha candidate from Bihar, after a series of meetings with CM Nitish Kumar throughout the day.

With this decision of JDU, the hopes of RCP Singh have suffered a major setback. Now RCP Singh will not only be deprived of going to the Rajya Sabha, but he will also have to leave the post of cabinet minister in the Modi government. It is possible for him to continue as a Union Minister only when he becomes a member of either House. But that doesn’t seem possible. Now RCP Singh is expecting some help from BJP.

Earlier today, there was chaos throughout the day for the Rajya Sabha seat of JDU. There have been frequent visits to meetings in JDU. Party’s national president Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh and JDU parliamentary board chairman Upendra Kushwaha held a press conference at the party headquarters in Patna at 4 pm on Sunday, but did not announce the name of the candidate. Singh and Kushwaha discussed the matter and then Lalan Singh went to the chief minister’s residence, but did not announce the name of the candidate.

Once Nitish Kumar was followed by RCP in JDU. Singh was considered a strong leader. But last year at the time of second expansion of the central government’s cabinet, Nitish Kumar had authorized RCP Singh to hold talks with the BJP and demand two cabinet and two state ministries for the party, but it did not happen and RCP Singh The deal was fixed for himself only on the post of a cabinet minister. After this, in the midst of a dispute in JDU, RCP Singh was removed and Lalan Singh was made the president of the party. Bihar has 5 seats for the Rajya Sabha elections and according to the strength of BJP, RJD and JDU, the first two parties will get two seats, while JDU will get one seat.
