Bhopal: Congress Rajya Sabha MP Digvijaya Singh on Friday said he is not contesting for the post of party president.

Singh’s statement came a day after he visited the party headquarters in Delhi.

He also participated in the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ with former Congress president Rahul Gandhi and other party leaders in the southern part of the country.

On Friday, he joined a gathering to pay tribute to ‘Shankaracharya’ – Swami Swarupananda Saraswati, who died at his ashram in Madhya Pradesh’s Narsinghpur district on September 11. Hundreds of seers from various religious places came to attend the ‘tribute sabha’.

On his way to Narsinghpur, he spoke to reporters and answered questions about the Congress presidential election and the contestants for the party’s top post.

Meanwhile, Digvijaya Singh said that RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s visit to the Delhi madrasa was a result of the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’.

He also thanked Bhagwat for his visit to the madrasa and the meeting with the Muslim religious leader.

“Less than two weeks after the Congress started the Bharat Jodo Yatra, the results started coming in…. The head of the RSS started visiting madrasas. I think he might have got this inspiration from Bharat Jodo Yatra. I express my gratitude to Mohan Bhagwat for his visit to the madrasa.”
