Islamabad: The details of the report submitted by the Election Commission to the Supreme Court on April 27 regarding the general elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have emerged.
According to the report, the electoral commission has informed the Supreme Court that funds and security have not been provided. In a two-page report commissioned by the Election Commission, it has been stated that the Supreme Court had ordered the federal government to provide 21 billion rupees to the Election Commission for the April 19 Punjab and KP elections, but the government had failed to do so by April 27. And did not provide necessary funds for elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The report further states that the Punjab Home Department had submitted the security plan for the Punjab elections to the commission according to which there is a shortage of 385 thousand 485 security personnel.
Additionally, the Election Commission in its report said that the Commission raised the issue of security for the availability of armed forces for the elections before the federal government through the Ministry of Home Affairs, however, the federal government did not meet the demands of free, fair and transparent elections in Punjab. Security is not provided.
It should be noted that the Supreme Court had ordered general elections to be held in Punjab on May 14.
