It is known that contact with all these Shiv Sena MLAs was lost in Mumbai. After that other leaders of the ruling party continuously tried to contact him, but to no avail. Uddhav Thackeray called a meeting regarding the crisis on the government and gave the command to Sharad Pawar to save the government. As soon as the MLAs sitting in Surat came to know about this, they decided to leave Surat and go to Guwahati.

On the other hand, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut, in a statement to the media, tried to persuade Shinde by calling him an ‘old friend’. Raut said, “Eknath is our old friend. He knows why we left BJP. He is a witness to it. Two of our leaders had gone to Surat. There he spoke to Eknath.”

What is the importance of these 40 MLAs in Maharashtra politics?

The total number of MLAs in Maharashtra is 288. Of these, BJP currently has 106 seats, Shiv Sena 55, NCP 52, and Congress 42 seats. For a majority, any party needs 144 seats. Shiv Sena had gathered this data along with Congress-NCP after parting ways with BJP in the 2019 elections. But now the situation seems to be turning. BJP needs 30-32 MLAs to form the government. In such a situation, if Shinde gives support to the BJP, then the Uddhav government will fall. This is the reason why efforts are constantly being made to persuade all these leaders.
