SAMAA – Hammad Azhar says ministers have nothing to do with the gas cargo purchase

Federal Minister for Energy Hamad Azhar said that no minister is involved in the purchase of gas cargo but this decision is taken by an independent and impartial board by consensus or voting.

Speaking on SAMAA program Nadeem Malik Live, Hamad Azhar said that no one has been able to present this issue properly in the media till date, therefore misunderstandings are being created. He said that only 28% of the people in the country have access to gas connection while the remaining 70% are deprived of this facility.

Hammad Azhar said that gas problem is all over the world while in Pakistan also gas shortfall occurs in winter for last 10 years. LNG has nothing to do with this issue. “We do not have a law to provide LNG to domestic consumers because it is very expensive,” he said.

The Federal Minister said that if we give LNG to the local gas consumers, we will lose Rs7.4 billion on one cargo. We cannot charge LNG tariff from the industry. The law does not allow us to do that.

Hamad Azhar said that the N-League’s formula of using LNG as an alternative to local gas has failed and by putting it in only three or four cargo systems we have lost 100 billion rupees.

He said that we can import only 12 cargoes of LNG.

Hamad Azhar said that taking into account the whole year, to say that since LNG was cheaper in this month, the government should have bought LNG in this month itself. Apparently it is easy to say but this is wrong because We don’t have that much storage. “We have to book cargo almost every month and can order a maximum of 12 cargoes out of which we have ordered 10,” he said.

He said that there was propaganda that domestic gas shortfall was due to untimely purchase of LNG even though LNG was not supplied to the domestic sector. If local gas shortfall is filled with LNG then we will have to increase the price by 5%.

The Federal Minister for Energy said that LNG has been used twice since the PML-N era and a second terminal would be set up in two months for which the government would not have to pay rent. He said that now we are working on virtual LNG for which two terminals will be set up in Port Qasim or Gwadar soon.

He said that Muftah Ismail was misrepresenting LNG but if he was taken to court then I would have to go to court every day.

Hamad Azhar said that in the past such power plants have been built which buy cheap gas and use it to make electricity which we then sell at subsidized price. Now we have announced a seasonal package which will help the needy people Electricity prices will be reduced. He said that life users will declare WAPDA customers from zero to 200 rupees per unit.

Talking on the program, PML-N leader Muftah Ismail said that for the fourth time the government did not buy gas on time, the government was getting the cheapest gas in the world but it was not taken on time but the government should admit its mistakes and move forward.

Muftah Ismail said that the government was paying more than 64 64 million per cargo. The government could have ordered 16 cargoes of gas which were not ordered.

PML-N leader said that the country’s debt is equal to GDP, the PTI government has increased the debt to the tune of Rs 20,000 billion. Is putting
