New Delhi, Sep 8 (PTI) Security forces were deployed near the Majnu Ka Tila area in north Delhi on Friday in view of fears of protests by some Tibetans ahead of the G20 summit to be held in the national capital. Police officials provided this information.
A large number of Tibetan refugees live in the Majnu Ka Tila area.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Sagar Singh Kalsi told ‘PTI-Bhasha’, “We have barricaded some parts of Majnu ka Tila area. Delhi Police and paramilitary forces have been deployed to maintain law and order.
Officials said this step has been taken due to fear of resistance from the Tibetan people.
The G20 leaders’ summit will be held in the national capital over the weekend.
Ahead of the summit, security has been increased across the city. In New Delhi district, police, paramilitary forces and other security agencies are keeping strict vigil.
The Delhi Police is assisted by over 50,000 security personnel, K9 dog patrols and mounted police officers.
