Long worked alongside Phillies manager Joe Girardi on the Yankees from 2008 to 2014 and also shared with Bryce Harper on the Nationals in 2018.

Long has two World Series titles. In 2009 with New York and in 2019 with Washington.

“I have a long relationship with Kevin and have seen his work up close,” Girardi posted in a statement. “I really think he’s the best in the business and it will have an impact on our offense.”

The Phillies fired coach Joe Dillon on the final day of the 2021 regular season, and Harper said by then the club needed to get a better replacement.

In 2021, the Phillies ranked seventh in NL in RBIs per game (4.53) and on-base percentage (.318), eighth in slugging (.408) and ninth in batting average (.240) . — MLB
