Neymar’s teammates on the Brazilian team hope the 29-year-old forward will stay with the national team after next year’s World Cup, despite the star saying the tournament in Qatar could be his last.

In an interview broadcast last week, Neymar said he did not know if he could withstand the mental exhaustion that more international football would imply after the 2022 World Cup. Therefore, he commented that he regards the next World Cup as if it were his last tournament with the national team.

His teammates closed ranks on Tuesday around the Paris Saint-Germain player, ensuring they understood the pressure Neymar faces as the top Brazilian star.

“We want him to stay for many years,” said midfielder Fred. “But it’s hard to talk about what someone else thinks. Sometimes people face great pressure. Not just Neymar, but (Lionel) Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo. We want him here, he is one of the best players Brazil has seen ”.

Defender Thiago Silva, a close friend of Neymar, told a press conference that the pressure on Neymar is unfair when compared to other players. The forward left the field in Sunday’s 0-0 draw against Colombia without speaking to reporters, after a poor performance. – AP
