The Supreme Court has ruled that an orphan is an orphan regardless of how his parents died. The apex court asked the Center whether there are ways in which the benefits of schemes including the PM Cares Fund can be extended to all orphans.

A bench of Chief Justice (DY) DY Chandrachud, Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Mishra on Friday asked Additional Counsel Vikramjit Banerjee, appearing for the Centre, to seek directions in the matter.
