The Matildas travel to the United States in April to face Mexico for the first time since 2011.
If the Matildas qualify for this year’s Olympics by defeating Uzbekistan in two games this month, the game against the Mexicans will serve as part of Australia’s preparations for the Paris Games, which begin in July.
“When I started with the Matildas, we found that we needed to continue to experience different styles, opponents and high-quality games, which would allow us to strive to be better one day,” said coach Toni Gustavsson.
“Every game we plan is intentional and key to our big vision of preparing the team for global tournaments and hosting the best teams in the world.”
“With quality players across the park, many of whom play their club football with top teams, Mexico will undoubtedly offer strong competition and the knowledge we gain from the questions they ask will strengthen our team.”
The game will be played on April 10 (Australian time) at Toyota Field in San Antonio, Texas. The start time has not yet been determined.
The Socceroos also played Mexico in Texas last year and the match ended in a 2-2 draw.
