Sindh Local Government Minister and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) senior leader Nasir Hussain Shah on Saturday stressed that morally, the mayoralty of Karachi belongs to the PPP.

In an interview with ARY News, the minister explained that whether the mayor is from Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) or Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), PPP will extend a warm welcome.

He claimed that PPP numerically is the largest party in Karachi, and morally the mayoralty of Karachi belongs to PPP.

Naseer Hussain Shah said that PPP has no concern if PTI supports Jamaat-e-Islami in the local government. He expressed the desire that the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) should engage with the PPP.

He urged all political parties to come together and jointly contribute to the improvement and development of Karachi, making it a better city for its residents.

Rejecting the allegations of harassment, the Minister for Local Administration Sindh said that JI leaders are leveling various allegations against the PPP but do not have a single chairman who supports their allegations.

Earlier in the day, PTI has announced its support for Jamaat Islami’s candidate for Karachi mayor.

PTI, the third largest party in the municipal council with 43 seats, has announced its support for the JI candidate.

Jamaat Islami, second in strength in the Karachi Municipal Council with 87 seats in the house, has claimed the mayoralty of the city with Hafiz Naeemur Rehman as the party’s candidate.

JI was able to comfortably take the prized post of Mayor with the support of PTI.

PTI Karachi has alleged that the People’s Party, the single largest group in the city council with 104 members, has been involved in pre-poll rigging in the election process.
