ISLAMABAD (92 News) The power shortfall in the country has increased to 8,911 MW, the power crisis has intensified.
According to sources in the power division, the total power generation in the country is 21,322 MW while the total demand for electricity is 30,233 MW. The duration of load shedding in urban and rural areas of the country increased from 12 to 14 hours.
In some areas, tripping and overloading cause hours of load shedding. Most of the country’s feeders are experiencing faults in the tripping transmission system.
Earlier, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif had directed the Ministry of Railways to take all necessary steps to ensure prompt delivery of coal imported from Afghanistan to power plants. He directed the concerned authorities to devise effective systems for generating cheap electricity to provide relief to the domestic consumers and industries.
The Prime Minister had also approved the import of high quality coal in rupees instead of dollars from Afghanistan to save the country’s precious foreign exchange.
