The governor of Raqqa in Syria, in response to a statement attributed to tribal leaders and sheikhs that included their rejection of the settlement processes in the province, said, “These statements are not covered by the tribal sheikhs, and the position of the sheikhs is contrary to what is stated in them.”

The Governor of Raqqa, Abdul Razzaq Al-Khalifa, added in a statement to the Syrian “Al-Watan Online” website: “The natural thing is that there are some people whose hands have blood on their hands who are discouraging the resolve of the entire community activities that want to settle and invest this honor in the right way.”

He added, “The so-called Muhammad al-Jassem, who claims to be the sheikh of the Arab Albu Manea tribe and spoke on behalf of the tribes, is a fugitive from the liberated areas and those who carry weapons and are fighting with the terrorist organization ISIS against the Syrian Arab Army, and the natural thing is that he rejects the settlement.”

The governor of Raqqa indicated that “those who influence the settlement process are the militias of the Syrian Democratic Forces, but these do not affect the settlement process.”

The Khalifa stressed that “there is a great demand for settlement, and if it were not for the obstacles set by the SDF militias, we would have seen thousands of people flock to make settlements.”

The governor said, “If the SDF militias had left the people to their comfort, we would see the picture much better than it is now. Despite that, we are optimistic about the numbers that come to settle their situation.”
