As you can probably tell by now, it’s not supposed to work like that. Let this person explain.
It is a Dyson Airblade that has been installed incorrectly.
They are not meant to be installed on flat bottom sinks for the reason you state, Dyson produces cad drawings that show compatible sink designs.
It also appears to be installed quite low, and therefore very close to the sink.
It’s also meant to fit in a sink without a plug (just a small grate), and just above the drain hole. In this way, once the water stops, there is no water in the basin to drain and it cannot be sprayed everywhere.
The air sensor cannot be accidentally triggered as the sensors work together, one stops before the other starts.
