The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has suspended two officials of the Inland Revenue Service in connection with the leak of tax records of retired Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa and his family.

Sources said that Assistant Commissioners Atif Nawaz and Zahoor Ahmad have been suspended from duty after preliminary investigations.

According to the initial report, the login details and passwords of both officers were leaked which are currently under investigation for further disclosures.

Earlier, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar ordered an inquiry into the unwarranted leak of tax information by the family members of outgoing Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa.

On serious notice, he said this is a clear violation of complete confidentiality of tax information provided by law.

In view of this serious lapse on the part of hitherto unknown functionaries, the Finance Minister has directed the Revenue SAPM Tariq Mehmood Pasha to personally conduct an immediate inquiry into the breach of tax code and breach of FBR data, attach responsibility and submit a report within twenty four hours.
