Hartalika Teej’s festival was celebrated with faith and devotion in Vidisha district. Women observed the fast of Hartalika Teej during the long lives of their husbands. During this period, religious rituals and bhajans and kirtans were performed by the women.
On the fast of Hartalika Teej, women celebrated the festival of mutual love and trust between husband and wife by applying henna on their hands and applying make-up.
Hartalika Teej is celebrated in Hasta Nakshatra on Tritiya Tithi of Shukla Paksha in Bhadrapada month. In Hindu belief, Teej’s fast is considered to be of great importance. This festival is dedicated to Mother Parvati. Married women worship Gauri-Shankar on Teej’s day, and also make clay idols of Gauri-Shankar and offer all wedding paraphernalia to Mother Parvati.
Married women observe Nirjala fast for the long life of their husbands. During this, women listened to the story of Lord Shiva and Parvati and offered prayers. Apart from this, women also sang bhajans and kirtans throughout the night.
