Barmer. A canal was built in this way to rescue the workers who were trapped due to the collapse of the well.
A laborer was buried after a 40 feet deep well collapsed in Jakharon ki Dhani Sanawada on Saturday. It took 24 hours for the district administration and the disaster management team to rescue the workers. The reason was that there was sand where the well was dug. Which used to slip and be picked up there as soon as it was removed. The sand also added to the rescue team’s worries.
For this, the administration started building a canal from a distance of 70 feet to reach a depth of 40 feet. 10 tractors, 3 JCBs, 2 Hitachis and hundreds of people gathered in 24 hours. After this, at around 4 pm on Sunday evening, the rescue team succeeded and took out the buried body from the well. After the autopsy, the body was handed over to the next of kin. Accidents have increased due to carelessness and excessive risk while digging wells in Barmer. Despite the risk of digging wells, the workers have nothing to do in the name of safety.
Rescue became a challenge: Due to sand sliding, a channel was formed from a distance of 70 feet and reached the bottom of a 40 feet deep well: Workers Devaram son of Chutraram Jat was trapped in sand debris due to collapse of three wells while digging a well in Anden Ka Tala of Jakhar ki Dhani Gram Panchayat of Sadar Police Station area buried. The incident happened at 4pm on Saturday night, but the rescue started at 6pm.
Barmer SDM Samundra Singh, Tehsildar Shyam Singh Charan, Sadar Police Kishan Singh Charan reached the spot. The rescue was challenging. The worker Devaram was able to be pulled out of the well at 4 pm on Sunday evening. After this he was taken to CHC in Sanawada, after post mortem the body was handed over to the family members.
Accident occurred due to binding of three farms in one day: A well was dug on Nandram’s son of Phusaram’s field. Where the well was dug there was a lot of quicksand. The worker Devaram had been doing the work of digging wells for many years. A day before the accident they had tied 3 yards and also on the day of the accident they were tying the third yard.
In such a situation, even the previous wells were not completely dry and too much sand was buried underneath, leading to the collapse of the well. The main reason for the accident was that even though they had sand they were digging 5-7 feet daily. While digging more than 3-4 feet was dangerous. The workers had nothing for safety.
This is the difference between a well and a tube well in the desert
Tubewell: The tube well is 500 to 1000 feet deep. Its width is only 10-12 inches. The work is done only by machines. Machine drilling is done together with the pipe thread in the pipe well. There is less risk of an accident in this, but there is also a greater risk of tubewell failure.
Well: Where there is less water in the ground, wells are dug. It is 4-5 feet wide and is excavated using the Farma method. After digging the well, deep digging is done in water with a drilling machine. After this, two-two and a half inch holes are made on the sides of the well for a distance of 100-150 feet with the horizontal machine. Through this, water from a distance of 100-150 feet is collected in the well through a hole and used for irrigation through a machine.
