Floods and landslides in southern Brazil have killed 66 and forced more than 80,000 people from their homes.

The governor of Rio Grande do Sul, Eduardo Leyte, expressed concern about the increase in the number of deaths due to flooding, according to the news agency.

A flood situation is expected due to heavy rains in the upper areas of the Kabul River

At least 101 people are missing in the latest in a series of catastrophic weather events in South America’s largest country, civil defense officials said.

Porto Alegre is completely flooded, with the Guiaba River, which flows through the city of 1.4 million people, reaching a record height of 5.3 meters, according to the local government.

After the rains, 14 people died in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, roofs collapsed and water swept them into flood channels.

Residents have been asked to move to higher ground and stay away from flood-prone areas identified by the Civil Defense Agency as more rain is forecast in the state.
