LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 30th Apr, 2024 ) The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday sought details of the decision of the Punjab Cabinet regarding wheat procurement.

The court ordered the provincial attorney to inform the court on the next day of the hearing about the cabinet’s decision regarding the procurement of wheat and adjourned further proceedings for a week. The court also noted that it will not interfere in the political affairs of the government.

Justice Shahid Karim issued the orders while hearing a petition filed by lawyer Farhat Manzoor Chandio asking the government to start buying wheat at a fixed support price from farmers in the province.

Through his petition, the petitioner alleged that though the Punjab government had announced a wheat procurement policy for 2024 with a fixed support price of Rs 3,900 per 40 kg, it had not started procuring wheat from farmers as scheduled on April 22. As a result, farmers were forced to sell their wheat at lower prices to the mafia due to the delay, he added.
