Web Desk: A list has been compiled to eliminate dual roles from doctors who hold multiple positions in the health sector and receive additional allowances for their various roles.
According to the announcement made by the Health Minister last month, the Health Secretariat is awaiting further instructions to implement these guidelines.
Sources within the Ministry of Health have revealed that while many doctors remain idle, others hold multiple significant positions simultaneously.
For instance, Dr. Shaukat Ali, Director General of Health Services, is currently serving as the Project Director of Timurgarh Medical College, Provincial Coordinator of the Lady Health Workers Program, and Additional Director General of Malakand Division. Additionally, he holds the position of Project Director for the National Health Promotion Program.
Similarly, Dr. Irshad Ali Roghani, a Grade 18 District Health Officer in Dir Lower, was assigned the additional responsibility of Director of Public Health last year. He also serves as the Director of the Integrated Vector Control Program at the Directorate General of Health Services, Peshawar, and acts as the Deputy Project Director of the NHSP.
Furthermore, it has been reported that several other doctors hold multiple positions simultaneously, such as Dr. Abid Hussain, who holds the post of Additional DG for Monitoring and Evaluation alongside being appointed as the CEO of a regional blood bank, although the latter appointment is not officially documented.
Dr. Faisal Khanzada, another officer of scale 20, is concurrently serving as DHO Abbottabad and Additional General Manager. Numerous similar cases have been documented.
These additional responsibilities have been assigned at the direction of the Health Secretary, as only the Secretary has the authority to appoint individuals to posts in scale 17 and above.
According to sources, efforts to revoke dual appointments have intensified, as some individuals holding dual roles wish to vacate one position to focus on their primary duties.
